The JMSG fine and performing arts program includes music, visual arts, dance, and drama. Dance is formally incorporated through the physical education department, and drama is integrated into the core subject areas when appropriate. The arts teachers communicate and collaborate with other programs to facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to learning. The program is based on the concept of nurturing the creative process rather than the production of standardized works. Each student is encouraged to be an individual. They explore the role of women and men throughout the arts and are encouraged to develop an appreciation for the arts of diverse cultures, emphasizing both personal expression and collaborative projects.
