Julia Morgan School for Girls offers applications to 5th & 6th grade students for 6th and 7th grades. We offer forty-four spaces for 6th grade students, and based on enrollment, we may have two to five spaces available for new 7th grade students. 

The application deadline for the 2017-18 school year has passed. Families interested in applying to the 2017-18 school year should contact Director of Admission Marcia Bedford at mbedford@juliamorganschool.org or 510.632.6000 x101.
We consider both the Admission Information Night combined with the Parent Tour essential to understanding the full program that JMSG offers. We strongly recommend that you attend the Admission Information Night first (when possible) where we provide an overview of our philosophy, curriculum, culture, and student experience. Our Parent Tour, required of all applicant families, showcases how we live our Mission. Please contact us if you have any questions.

#1 Attend an Information Night

The Information Nights are designed to inform parents about the JMSG culture, curriculum, community, and admission process. Parents will also have the opportunity to hear from current 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, alumna, and JMSG parents.

We encourage you to bring your prospective applicant daughter (only). While parents participate in the parent session, JMSG students will host our student guest to an overview of "A Day in the Life of a JMSG student," a question and answer session and a tour of the school.

We strongly recommend this option before considering a parent tour!

#2 Parent Tours

Tours are designed to deepen your understanding of how we live the philosophy, curriculum in our community on a daily basis. The Head of School and Assistant Head of School will respond to questions that may not have been deeply addressed or may have arisen since your attendance at the Information Night.

Parent Tours for 5th or 6th grade applicants are required
Tours of the school while in session (early a.m.) are required of all parents/guardians who submit an application. You are welcome to tour the school before applying; if you do so, your tour will have fulfilled the requirement.

Not a 5th or 6th grade parent?
Please note, due to limited space, we can only accommodate prospective 5th and 6th grade applicants at the Fall 2016 evening Admission Information Nights.

If your child is not a current fifth or sixth grade student, you are welcome to tours led by Marcia Bedford, Assistant Head of School/Director of Admission on February 6, 8, 13, times 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

#3 Complete online Parent/Guardian Questionnaire

  • The Parent/Guardian Questionnaire is to be completed online. This is required before you schedule the student shadow visit and the assessment. Applications can be submitted as early as September. Early application deadline is December 2nd and the final deadline is January 9th.
  • A fee of $100.00 (credit card or check payable to Julia Morgan School for Girls) is due when the application is submitted. There is an early bird reduced fee of $80 if you apply by December 2, 2016. This fee is non-refundable and does not, in the case of acceptance, apply toward tuition.
  • A copy of the applicant's Birth Certificate is due when the application is submitted. You have the option to submit it online or mail a copy to the school.
  • For Sibling Families: Julia Morgan School for Girls understands the benefits of having daughters in the same family attending the School. However, what is right for one child may not necessarily be the correct placement for her sister. A sibling applicant will be accepted based on the Admissions Committee's determination that the student will be successful at JMSG. A sibling's admission to JMSG is not guaranteed. It is recommended that all families apply to other schools. Sibling applicants should apply by December 2, 2016, and take their ISEE exam no later than January 7th , 2017.

#4 Submit Student Questionnaire

Candidate Questionnaire is available for download in the "Downloads' box to the right. This should be handwritten and submitted via snail mail or emailed to Emily Jerome.

#5 Register for the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE)

All applicants are required to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) LOWER LEVEL (for those entering grades 5 and 6) and MIDDLE LEVEL (for those applying to 7th grade) as our admission test. While we require a standardized test, we consider all aspects of your application in our admission decision. Early registration is suggested as test sites fill up quickly. JMSG applicants may take the ISEE at any site. 

Due to a policy change with ISEE administration, students will be allowed to take the test two times during the JMSG admissions process. Test scores should be received by January 20, 2017. To ensure JMSG receives test results, parents must request ISEE to submit scores to JMSG. Our school code is: 054288.

#6 Send in one Teacher Recommendation Form

  • One academic teacher recommendation is required. Teachers completing the forms must be your child's current teacher or taught your child last year. Please provide a stamped envelope addressed to JMSG or to Admission Assistant Keri Halbrit, email address: ejerome@juliamorganschool.org. The teacher must return this form directly to JMSG. Deadline is January 9, 2017.
  • The Teacher Recommendation form is available for download in the 'Downloads' box to the right.
  • JMSG will also accept the common recommendation form used by East Bay Independent Schools Association (EBISA) member schools.
*Please note that recommendations should not be submitted until November 2016 to give current teachers time to get to know your daughter.

#7 Sign and Return the Transcript Release Form

  • Please sign the Transcript Release Form and deliver it to the school your child currently attends. This form authorizes your child's current school to release a complete transcript to Julia Morgan School for Girls. Please provide a stamped envelope addressed to JMSG. The school must return this form to JMSG with your child's current year first quarter/trimester report card and the previous end of year report card, reports and evaluations, including all standaradized test scores.

#8 Schedule your daughter's required School Visits

  • Girls should plan to visit on a morning during Peek Week: January 23-27. All candidates are also required to participate in a JMSG assessment day in January. The assessment will give your daughter the opportunity to interact with fellow applicants through group activities and, for our faculty, an opportunity to get to know her better.
  • You will be able to schedule both of these days online after submitting the parent/guardian and candidate questionnaire. Links to register can be found on your JMSG online application profile.

#10 Admission Decisions

Decisions regarding acceptance will be mailed on Thursday, March 16, 2017. Your response to reserve a space for your accepted daughter is expected no later than Friday, March 24, 2017, by 10:00 a.m.
