Multicultural Women’s Leadership Conference Opens a New Dialog Among All Women To Create Next Generation of Leaders

April 26th, 2009 (Oakland, CA) –  “The Four Legends of Feminism” Gloria Steinem, Dolores Huerta, Aileen Hernandez, and Yuri Kochiyama inspired hundreds of women, including students from the Julia Morgan School for Girls at the Engage Her, Inc. conference on April 25th and 26th.  Julia Morgan School for Girls – the only all-girls middle school in the Easy Bay –volunteered as bloggers and technology support for the inaugural Multicultural Women’s Leadership Conference, held on the UC Berkeley campus. Mable F. Yee (Engage Her Founder and C.E.O.) reflected, “The conference was an amazing opportunity to connect women and young girls of all communities and cultures. The JMSG girls filled the hearts and imaginations of all attendees and inspired us all to create better communities for all of our future leaders.”

The historical closing event, entitled “Passing The Baton”, highlighted the unabashed courage and passion of the four legendary leaders, which was equally matched by a vivacious desire to learn, and fearless hope of the JMSG girls. “The most magical moment of the conference was witnessing all different age groups of women inspire each other. The JMSG girls’ participation in the conference gave us the reassurance of hope, and I'm truly inspired to know that they are a part of the Engage Her team,” stated Tameeka Kelley (Engage Her Director of Programs).

Engage Her, Inc., is a non-profit organization focused on activating the voices of all women, particularly those from African American, Asian American Pacific Islander, Latino and other cultural communities.
