Julia Morgan School for Girls is creating an endowed fund restricted to financial aid called The Athena Fund.  Currently, 30% of the students who attend JMSG receive financial aid. In order for the School to continue providing this level of support and ensure that girls (regardless of economic means) have the opportunity to pursue their dreams through a Julia Morgan School education, the School is looking to raise the seed money for an endowment.

The Story of Athena as Mentor

Athena, born from the head of Zeus, goddess of wisdom and war, also known for her talents in the creative arts, was the patroness of Athens.  As one of the most powerful deities of the ancient world, Athena represents strong leadership, clear judgment, artistic skill, and sharp intelligence.  In Homer’s epic The Odyssey, Athena takes on the role and disguise of the wise old man “Mentor”, who leads and guides Odysseus and allows him to see new perspectives and make critical choices throughout his journey.

You can change the life of a young girl! Support The Athena Fund and instill the wisdom of Athena in girls who will become tomorrow's mentors.

A chance to make your gift go twice as far - be a Founder of the Future

To mark JMSG’s 10th anniversary celebration in June 2009 and in honor of founding head Ann Clarke, the School’s founding board members have offered to match all gifts to The Athena Fund, up to a total of $110,000.

That means any gift you give will be doubled by the founding board and will go twice as far – making twice as big a difference in the lives of JMSG students.

The founding board planted the seeds of their dream school in 1998.  Now it is your chance to plant the seed for the future. Don’t miss an opportunity to be part of a legacy; you can make dreams come true for the next generation of talented girls by helping us reach our goal of $250,000 by June.

Why an endowed fund?

Endowment funds are assets that provide support to the school in perpetuity. The endowment funds are invested, and a portion of the investment return provides support to school operations – in this case, to JMSG’s financial aid program.

Giving to an endowment like The Athena Fund means that your gift will keep supporting the school and its students in perpetuity – not just this year, but every year into the future.

How to give

Julia Morgan School gratefully accepts checks, credit card payments, and gifts of stock. Please note on your check that the gift is intended for The Athena Fund.

We also encourage supporters to see if their employer has a program to match charitable giving, and to consider including the school and The Athena Fund in their estate planning.

For further information about how to give to The Athena Fund, please call Development Director Kim Hubner at 510.632.6000 x103.
