The physical education program of Julia Morgan School inspires and challenges girls of all physical talents to develop confidence, flexibility, strength, endurance, grace, and athletic skill. Our goal is that each girl leave the school: - feeling confident and comfortable in her body
- having participated in a wide variety of physical activities including games, dance, yoga, sports, movement, self-defense and martial arts
- with a life-long commitment to movement, exercise, and healthy nutrition
- with a recognition and respect for women and men who are positive role models of physical fitness and health
6th Grade PEThe units taught in Physical Education to 6th graders include: kickball, self-defense, aerobics, mile run, soccer, basketball, volleyball, capture the flag, team building games, badminton, ultimate frisbee, and exercise videos. Additionally, dance and yoga are taught every week throughout the school year. 7th & 8th GRADE PE
7th and 8th graders sign up for a different PE elective each quarter of the school year, allowing them to explore a variety of activities each year. Physical Education elective offerings have included: Ball Games
Students play games, including SPUD, soccer, kickball, and softball, among others. They work on field sense, endurance, and team building skills.
Basketball Students learn a variety of basketball techniques, skills, and drills. They develop coordination, strength, and agility while working on team building skills on a variety of levels. Students learn to challenge themselves both mentally and physically while having fun!Cross Country The Cross Country class focuses on developing endurance, speed, and strength for distance running. Endurance increases by running progressively longer distances. Uphill challenges and interval style exercises build speed and strength. Girls experience the joys of distance running at their own pace, with plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves in a fun, noncompetitive situation. Cross Training/YogaCross Training includes a Pilates-based core strengthening warm-up, followed by a variety of aerobic exercises including running, jumping rope, relay sprints, and hopscotch. In yoga, students practice exercises that cultivate strength, flexibility and focus.
Circus ArtsStudents begin class with yoga-based strength and flexibility exercises. We work on basic skills in mime, juggling, tightrope, and clowning. Girls work together to create skits using the skills they've developed.
FootballStudents play flag football games. They first learn the basic skills necessary to play the game: kicking, throwing, passing, catching, and running. Girls learn how to build a team and develop plays.
Soccer Students learn a variety of soccer techniques, skills, and drills. They develop coordination, strength, and agility while working on team building skills on a variety of levels. Students learn to challenge themselves both mentally and physically while having fun! Volleyball Students learn a variety of volleyball techniques, skills, and drills. They develop coordination, strength, and agility while working on team building skills on a variety of levels. Students learn to challenge themselves both mentally and physically while having fun!
