The Humanities program combines language arts and social studies. Its goal is to educate girls to be critical thinkers, proficient writers, effective readers, and powerful speakers and listeners.

The language arts curriculum provides students with instruction in multiple writing styles and practice in note taking, research, and report writing. Teachers use literature to provide a framework for the eras examined in social studies.

WORD Day is an annual all-day writing event.  All grades participate in small workshops led by published writers and teachers, giving girls a wide range of opportunity to explore the written word.  WORD Night is the culmination of this experience where student and teacher writers share their creations with family and friends.

In social studies, students explore a variety of civilizations through tradition, history, and contribution to society. Girls study history along with related contemporary issues through reading, lectures, writing workshops, oral and written presentations, group discussions, and creative projects.  Course materials are supplemented by film, music, guest speakers, and field trips.  Students are encouraged to think about their place in history and how they can make a difference in the world around them.

Topics of study include:

• Ancient civilizations and archaeology
• Study of Western Europe, Meso-America, Japan, and Sub-Saharan Africa between 500-1600
• United States history
